Fenya Rai!

The band was born in 2015 in the city of Valls (Tarragona, Catalonia). Its members come from different musical backgrounds, but with a common purpose: get to know the world of the catalan folk music, through the work of Joan Amades (an early 20th century folklorist). Fenya Rai! studies, rehearses and musically works a stack of songs collected in the popular songbook called Cançoner popular. The main objective is to find a way to reintroduce some songs from the catalan heritage into the current collective memory. The band versions these songs and plays with the lyrics, rhythms and harmonies, in order to adapt them to the tastes of the 21st century. Through criticism, humor and poetry, the songs reflect the uncomplicated and festive mood of the members of the group and from the catalan region. After an initial stage of investigation and trying different instruments, the group is finally configured in its current form: diatonic accordion, classical guitar, tambourine, electric bass and the four voices of the members. In 2019 Fenya Rai! releases its first album. It is a compilation of different songs played over the first four years of experience, combining some already known songs from the oral tradition and others from the songbook Cançoner popular. In 2021 the group recorded its second album, including several songs of their own. It is the result of the experience of these years of performances and work.
