Many people wonder, who is Stricknine? While others simply know that it's those 4 goofballs at shows who uses phrases such as "awesome possum", "grody", or "true dat". Stricknine, from Yorktown VA, Takes theyre own style of "Op-core" to a whole new level. With an excellent blend of cultures, Stricknine unites all: Jake, the fearless singer influenced by anything from h2o to Meshuggah, Sloth, the FLHC native guitar player and a known "punk-rocker", Matt, the quiet bass player and only guy who finds hair important, and Opi, the social barfly drummer who digs anything loud and aggressive. Stricknine formed something like this: Sloth Graham and Brent "Opi" Nelms created a band called The Celibates along with ex-singer Dagny Sprague and ex-Bassplayer and current Stricknine Roadie Hardcore Jerry. One day, Jake fit himself in the band somehow as the 2nd guitar player and the band was formed. They played a few shows and called it quits. Jake soon thought he'd take charge and step up behind the mic and Jerry decided to quit and become the loyalist of fans. Stricknine were able to create a 5 song CD with the help of Sloth recording Bass as well. When Brent, Jake, and Sloth formed Stricknine they realized they were playing shows without a bass player until they invited one of Brent and Sloth's friends Matt Geary to jam with them at a practice. Matt had been playing for awhile solo, with hope for a band with simular interests. He soon caught on and became an official member of the group in the Summer of 2000.
