D-M-D

Jacque "DMD (Devastating Mic Demander)" Barnes was a member of the Los Angeles-based hip-hop group Poetry 'N' Motion. After releasing a couple of singles with the group in the late 1980's (notably the Dr. Dre-produced classic "251830"), he converted to Islam (taking the name Muslim ibn Matee) and released the gangsta rap-inspired 2931584 in 1993. D-M-D shared his new found views on this album, making it one of the earliest examples of orthodox "Sunni" Islam being spoken about on a hip-hop track. D-M-D would also mentor local upcoming artist Akil (later of Jurassic 5 fame). D-M-D passed away in 2022.
