Tophet

Israeli black metal band, founded in 1996 as [a3598293]. They released one demo tape under that name in 1997, then changed their name to Tophet in 1999. Released the 8840006 7" in 2000 on the cult label Devilish Music Propaganda. The next year saw the release of their only album, 8840054, by British label The Black Hand. The band ended in 2003. The name "Tophet" is a reference to a passage in the Old Testament about a location in their hometown: "So beware, for the time is coming, says the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter." —Jeremiah 19:6
