Dixie Blackstone

Dixie Blackstone began to play Violin professionally with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra beginning in 1943, along with childhood friend [a538478]. She married French horn player, Joseph Eger (later divorced). They moved to NY where she played in The American Symphony Orchestra under [a617133]. She also served as assistant concertmaster and often filled in as concertmaster with the New York City Opera Orchestra and [a1430641]. She returned to Los Angeles, where she played among composers [a164279], Franz Waxman, Miklós Rózsa, Alfred Newman, David Newman, [a166320], [a253412], and [a39575], to name just a few. Her playing was prominent in many radio and television programs, and pop recordings as well. She passed away July 2017 at the age of 98.
