The Viscounts (16)

The Viscounts were a group that predates The Viscaynes. This group from Vallejo High School is said to have featured Charlene Imhoff and Frank Arellano. The Viscounts merged in 1959 with another group from the school, The Webs (some soures say Sly Stewart aka Sylvester Stewart was in the Webs' line up). After the merge, the Viscounts line up consisted of Frank Arellano, Charlene Imhoff, Sly Stewart, Maria ‘Ria’ Boldway and the brothers Charles and Vern Gebhard. As the story goes, they changed their name to The Viscaynes to avoid confusion with The Viscounts who had a hit in 1959 with the song "Harlem Nocturne". There's also some speculation as to whether Sylvester Stewart was actually on the "Are You My Girlfriend" recording that appeared on the Vallejo Highschool Yearbook 1958-59 record.
