Jeff Whittington

North Carolina Banjo Champion Jeff Whittington was raised in Charlotte, where he begin playing the banjo in 1969, pedal steel guitar in 1972, and adding acoustic guitar, mandolin, dobro, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, harmonica along the way. He started appearing in local bands soon after, and later played the Grand Ole Opry, Ernest Tubb's Midnight Jamboree, and was a staff musician on Arthur "Dueling Banjos" Smith's television show. He also has worked as a session musician based in Charlotte. He currently heads the Jeff Whittington Bluegrass Band which plays over 100 gigs every year in and around Charlotte, and also teaches banjo. (Not to be confused with the Jeff Whittington who sang and played electric and acoustic guitar with the Dallas-based group "Adam's Farm.")
