Chris Fischer, a native New Yorker who relocated to the DC area 10 years ago, is armed with the rather fanciful degree of Jazz Studies from the Hartt School of Music. On December 28th, 2022, he was announced to be joining famed Jazz Fusion group "Spyro Gyra" as their new keyboardist starting in March 2023. Over the years, he has played with such funk and r&b legends as Stevie Wonder, Bobby Brown, Blood Sweat & Tears, Atlantic Starr, The Main Ingredient, Ceelo Green, Chante Moore, Alton Scarborough, Alyson Williams, Mikki Howard, Chico DeBarge, The Temptations, The Delfonics, Michael McDonald, Jennifer Hudson, and Kevin Whalum as well as jazz stalwarts such as Larry Carlton, Paul Brown, Gary & Greg Grainger, Ronnie Laws, Karen Briggs, Andrew Neu, Cindy Bradley, Cheikh NDoye, Jazmin Ghent, Michael Henderson, Eddie Baccus Jr., Rob Zinn & Althea Rene. Upon moving to Maryland, Chris joined the Earth Wind & Fire tribute show "In Gratitude" and the house band as host keyboardist at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Jam Night with the Grainger Brothers. Chris also plays in Spyro Gyra bassist’s own group, the Scott Ambush Quartet, as well as in a Prince tribute show featuring members of Prince’s own original New Power Generation. Chris also runs two Tower of Power reviews, “DC Greasy” in DC and “East Coast Grease” in New York, featuring several alumnae of that band. Most recently Chris helped form “Mysterious Traveler,” a tribute to jazz fusion pioneers Weather Report along with Scott Ambush and Al Williams of Stanley Clark association. When not assimilating the styles and music of the stars, Chris plays Gospel at First Baptist Church of Sterling, VA and with his own event group "Skin Tight" and the Latin jazz quintet "Sunflare." Under the auspices of Music Director Ray Chew, he also is a music and chart arranger for American Idol, Singing Bee, the 2013 Emmy Awards, I Can See Your Voice, and BET’s Celebration of Gospel. Chris has three CD's released entitled "Live Funk Nouveau" by the band of the same name under his leadership, a groundbreaking modern jazz record with Chilean saxophonist Anibal Rojas entitled "Root Kinetic," and a contemporary jazz fusion album “Utopic Swerve.” Chris is currently one of the main music backing track producers for the online drum instruction academy, Drumeo, and its affiliated vocal studio, Singeo. To date he has produced play-along tracks featuring Dennis Chambers, Snarky Puppy's Larnell Lewis, and fusion legend Simon Phillips, among many others.
