The Dirty formed during the explosion of the Garage Punk scene in London in the early '00s featuring Kyrill Khieninson (Vocals), Marc Sallis (Guitar), Steve Donelan (Drums) and Howard Williams (Bass). Prior to the release of their debut single, "Cinnamon" b/w "Black Sugar" and "B-Movie Dance", on Dirty Water Records in 2003, the band was featured in The Face magazine's Top 50 hottest bands alongside The Black Keys and more. "Thirteen Devils" was released on the 'This Is Punk Rock Blues, Vol 1' album in 2005, before Tricky's Brown Punk label reissued The Dirty's debut single, "Cinnamon", under the new title of "Why, I Think It's Love" in 2007. The track, "I Want Something", was then released in 2008 as part of the 'Tricky Presents Brown Punk' compilation, along with a Tricky remix of "Why, I Think It's Love". The band's 2003 debut album, which includes the single "Cinnamon", "Black Sugar", "Thirteen Devils", "Take Me" (later released as "I Want Something" on Tricky's Brown Punk label), "Devil's Got A Handful", (All of the Kids) Come Out" and "Country Trash", was recorded at Gizzard Studios by Edd Deegan, who cut his recording skills at the legendary Toe Rag studios in London.
