Subconscious is a four-piece rock band from Anchorage, Alaska. Although their music cannot be confined to a specific genre, it incorporates elements of several different genres. Their muisc is heavy, but melodic, with both meaningful and emotional lyrics. Subconscious is singer Dan Hall, guitarist Ari Katcher, bassist Andrew Totemoff, and drummer Axel Bodnar. Over the few years that they have been playing together, they have already developed a unique sound that sets them apart from other bands and appeals to a wide range of listeners. An active stage presence and a tight, consistent sound draws many new as well as familiar faces to their shows. Subconscious has won two local battle of the bands contests, one to open for Skinlab at the Anchorage 4th Avenue Theatre, and the other to open for Exodus at the world famous Chilkoot Charlie's. They have also opened for other national acts such as 36 Crazyfists, Anatomy of a Ghost, Dry Kill Logic, and The Presidents of the United States of America. Amidst their many shows, they have caught the attention of the people at Red Bull Energy Drink, who now sponsor them. Along with their sponsorship, they also play at events that Red Bull promotes. Following the release of their self-titled EP, Subconscious was given air time on local radio stations KZND 87.7 FM, KRUA 88.1 FM, KGOT 101.3 FM, and KWHL 106.5 FM. They also gained mediam attention with articles in The Anchorage Daily News, The Anchorage Chronicle, AK This Month, and The Anchorage Press, in addition to countless online publications. After hearing their EP, New York City Producer Don Fleming (Sonic Youth, Hole) offered to record them. Their new full length LP 'This Empty Room' has already gotten them in regular rotation on local radio stations and it is expected to draw the attention of a much larger music scene when they move to Portland this October.
