American songwriter, author, and librettist. Born September 16, 1889 in Dubuque, Iowa. Died December 5, 1961 (72 years of age). Best known for song Hold Me, which he co-wrote with Ira Schuster and Little Jack Little. The song charted 7 times between 1933 and 1981, with its highest charting coming in 1933 by The Hotel Commodore Orchestra, when it hit #3 in the U.S. He also charted with the songs "It's the Girl" by Boswell Sisters, "The Night When Love Was Born" by Ruth Etting, and "At the Baby Parade" by Enric Madriguera and His Orchestra. He wrote songs for musical shows in London, for Broadway shows, and motion picture scores including the 1944 black-and-white ice-skating musical Lady Let’s Dance, which has been preserved by the Library of Congress. He also played semi-professional football.
