Lara Travis is foremost a storyteller. In June 2018, the Australian singer-songwriter released her debut LP: Pineapples, Greenbacks and Glitter in the Air. The album takes us into a nocturne, where the corpse of a murdered girl sings for vengeance, suburban boys punch-on with bouncers in a meth-fuelled street fight, where errant family men seek company and Linda Lee, dancer and modern-day Stagger Lee – kills her client, splattering his blood all over the Mirror Room in “a kaleidoscope of gore.” These are urban tales: stories of the marginal, imperfect, the far-from-ideal, the hapless, the compromised and corrupt. And sometimes there’s love. Travis’ take on folk is both otherworldly and familiar, reflecting influences as diverse visual artists Gustave Courbet and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, singer-songwriter Jaques Brel and everyday life in Melbourne. https://www.facebook.com/laratravismusic
