Calving

Calving was formed by Daniel O'Brien-Bravi in 2016 after leaving four other groups with the intention of challenging composition being the focus. The name "calving" refers to glacial calving, wherein large sections of a glacier break off into the surrounding water to become icebergs. The 4-piece of Daniel O'Brien-Bravi, Matt Dabrowiak, Dave Hires, and Tony Move wrote "A Music" over the course of 16 months, and performed it live twice. The second performance was recorded and stands as the group's only document of "A Music" in its complete form. In 2018, the band asked Tony to step down from saxophone duties in order to bring a tighter focus on composition. The group worked on new material as a three-piece until 2020, when a combination of work and pandemic restrictions forced an indefinite hiatus.
