Swedish new wave band active Stockholm 1980-1982 and version 2 1983-1984 In the early 1980s, Sven Lundgren (guitar and vocals), Micke Hedenby (bass and vocals), Tomas Kolbengtsson (guitar) and Janne Dahlström (drums) met at Musikverket and other clubs in Stockholm. Inspired by the bands they saw, they decided to start their own. The result was Ekovox. Micke had previously played with the well-known punk band Berlin in Stockholm, which had just split. However, Ekovox got a more poppy sound. The influences came largely from bands such as The Who and Big Star, but the early Reeperbahn was not far away either. The boys also got to know Anders Dahlgren, who had then started the record company Trend Records. He gave them a record contract and the first record, the mini-LP "Ekovox" was released in 1981. It was followed by the single "Soldier with a broken rifle" and in connection with it they made an appearance in P3's "Tonkraft" together with Docent Död. The following tour gave gigs all over Sweden and guitarist Sven got the chance to show off his unique transparent Rickenbacker guitar with built-in light organ! The guitar was bought in front of the eyes of a slightly bitter Basse Wickman. In the summer of 1982, they released the LP "Rhythms in the Dark" which was produced by Dan Sundqvist from Reeperbahn. A few months after the record was released, the group split. However, Ekovox was reorganized in 1983 by Micke Hedenby and some members from Chatterbox, then as a Latin pop / soul band. They released two more singles but disappeared in 1984. Sven and Tomas started after Ekovox's pop trio Dego Deluxe, together with drummer John Svensson from Spion 13.
