Luís Filipe Silva

Drummer & percussionist born and bred in Figueira da Foz, Portugal. Started playing drums at the age of fifteen and later on has studied with teachers such as drummer Ronaldo Firmino (FadoMorse) and also studied at Atelier de Percussão (Porto) with Hugo Danin (Tatanka, Gileno Santana). Progressive rock and metal were his primary influences at the outset, recording two albums with the band GrimleT thus stepping into the main stages of festivals and concerts all over the country for the next ten years. From there-on he attended a large variety of masterclasses & workshops with musicians such as Bruno Pedroso, Ruca Rebordão, André Silva, Francisco Lima, Pancho Tarrabia, Tiago Pereira, Marcelo Magliocchi and developed interests in a wide variety of musical styles such as funk, jazz, free improvisation and experimental sound art. Also developed interest and practice in the ancestral wind instrument didgeridoo. All over the years he played with several artists, bands and projects from a vast array of genres, from pop-rock to progressive death metal, jazz, folk, world music, free improvisation and others. Also worked many years as a producer and stage manager in music festivals and artistic events. He is also devoted to drum teaching and workshops since 2007. Currently, he teaches drums at Studio12 in Figueira da Foz & online drum lessons and has been active working with Mercury Falls & Q~Symphonic Tour, theatre/video music scoring, now playing with Marcelo dos Reis "Flora" Trio promoting their new record live and also working on a new release from his solo experimental music & spoken word project "Monge Azul".
