Swedish pop group in September 1964. Lead vocalist Lenne Broberg had previously fronted Lenne And His Falcons and The Adventures (3). During the compulsory military conscription, Broberg met Bengt Dahlén, who had previously played with the [a1839524]. To capitalize on the fame of Broberg, they billed themselves "Lenne and the Lee Kings". They found success almost immediately and got a contract with Sonet, who recorded and released a record with them on Gazell, [r3494109]. It sold almost nothing upon release in Sweden, but after getting a Finnish release, [r3494109], it topped the chart there during the summer of 1965 while they were virtually unknown in Sweden. After intensive touring in that country, they returned to Sweden with re-recorded versions of [r3494109]. After performing in Malung on 7 January 1966, the audience of Tio i Topp the following afternoon voted "Stop The Music" to number one on that chart and their success skyrocketed in Sweden as well. Following one more hit, [m832975] the group were suddently in for several changes. They decided to drop the "Lenne" prefix under the pretense that they'd become famous in their own right as a band, instead becoming simply The Lee Kings. Bassist [a8019104] left and was replaced by Bengt Dahlén while they would also leave Gazell, instead signing RCA Victor.
