Kids Indestructible are Tim Robinson and Phil Quaite. Both hail from Yorkshire, England and first began recording, under the name Antidote, in 1998. Encouraged by their friend, Beatnik Records boss Carl Emery, Antidote released a 12" EP on that label called "Riot in Studio 54". This experiment in combining the disco sound of Chic with Drum &Bass gained favourable reviews in DJ Magazine among others and eventually sold out its modest run of 500. Later they would change their style to a more expansive, ambient electronic sound. They adopted a new name, Kids Indestructible (chosen as it sounded like a cartoon series yet to be made). They decided on 'Please Avoid Strong Light' as a potential album title which has since become their catchphrase and band logo. The phrase is taken from the text on the back of packets of Seabrook Crisps manufactured in Bradford in their native Yorkshire. This also became the title of one of their definitive tracks, a vocoderised Beach Boy chant mixed with electronic drones and jaunty piano, which grabbed the attention of Parisian record label, Gooom Disques. This combination of unexpected musical influences sums up the Kids Indestructible sound very well.
