Debuting live appropriately enough on the 6/6/06, Western Australia's THE DEVIL RIDES OUT quickly set about establishing themselves as “Perth’s premier exponents of balls’n’all rock’n’roll grit’n’grime” (Drum Media) with their unholy trinity of EPs; Volume I, II and III. On the back of the Volumes, the band supported CLUTCH (USA), Nick (QOTSA/Kyuss) Oliveri’s MONDO GENERATOR (USA), MONSTER MAGNET (USA), WINNEBAGO DEAL (UK), SHIHAD (NZ) and in May 2009 won the WAMi (West Australian Music Industry) Award for ‘Best Hard Rock / Metal Artist’. The Devil re-entered the studio in December 2009 to lay down their debut album. Boutique Wollongong stoner rock label Impedance Records liked what they heard emanating from the studio and promptly signed them. The resulting album The Heart & The Crown charts the sound of a band coming of age, displaying both a musical breadth and lyrical depth previously only hinted at on the Volume EPs, whilst still retaining the bands trademark venom, grit and pitch black sense of humour. The album's release in September 2010 was backed by their first national tour and met with glowing reviews from the press, receiving 4 star reviews from Blunt Magazine, Reverb and Music Australia Guide, while Beat Magazine said "it’s clear that the four-piece act have well and truly earned their immense reputation as one of the west’s best newcomers in recent years". The band were nominated twice more for ‘Best Hard Rock / Metal Artist’ at the WAMi Awards in 2010 and 2011 and further touring and supports followed, with an appearance in Sydney at Doomfest Festival 2011 and supports in 2012/13 for DEAD MEADOW (USA), PINK MOUTAINTOPS (CAN), FU MANCHU (USA), BLACK COBRA (USA) and TRUCKFIGHTERS (SWE). And now The Devil Rides Out return with a new release in 2013 entitled 'Ugly Creatures'. A five track EP, the recording features the all new songs 'Ugly Creature', 'Empty Sky' and 'The Righteous Walk', as well as a powerful doom reworking of their track 'Watch It Burn' entitled 'Burn Again', and finally a somewhat unlikely cover of the Abbe May tune 'Blood River'. Clocking in at over 30 minutes, 'Ugly Creatures' is the darkest and heaviest music yet from the band. Accompanying the release will be a series of five music videos, each directed by a different film-maker. All were given a completely open brief and free reign to create whatever they wanted. The results of this audio visual experiment will roll out over the course of a few months, with a couple of the clips already unveiled on the band's Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/thedevilridesoutband The new EP and films will be backed up by national touring in Spring 2013.
