Melvin Goins

American bluegrass guitarist, singer and older brother of Ray Goins, born December 30, 1933 near Bluefield, West Virginia. Died July 29, 2016 while touring in Canada. Made history as first bluegrass musician pictured on cover of Smithsonian magazine. Inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame (2011) and the Virginia Music Hall of Fame (2013). Called an “Appalachian Treasure” by Morehead College in 2000, and was inducted in to the Bluegrass Hall of Popularity later that 12 months.
