Canadian guitarist, singer and songwriter. Originally from Calgary, he settled in Winnipeg by 1956, joining [a5241566]'s The Sons Of The Saddle and soon becoming lead vocalist and guitarist. His popularity grew in 1957 after regular TV appearances with the band on Winnipeg's CBWT-TV. He left The Sons and Winnipeg for Toronto in 1958 where he appeared on CBC's "Country Hoedown" program and a stint at the Brown Derby. He landed a contract that year with Decca and headed to Nashville, where he recorded some sessions for them. In the early 60s he transitioned from country and rockabilly to jazz as a member of The Johnny Lewis Trio. Related to Norene Derksen and Esther Derksen.
