American cross-disciplinary artist, writer, educator and curator (b. 5 February 1960, New York City); based in New York and using "they/them" pronouns. Nayland Blake is a "mixed media" artist, primarily creating elaborate installations, plus digital paintings, experimental videos, photography, etc. Blake's work often focuses on their pansexuality, biracial heritage, and masochism and incorporates radical and provocative subjects. Blake is a co-director of the Studio Art Program at Bard College. Nayland Blake earned their BFA degree at Bard College (1982), followed by a Master's from the California Institute Of The Arts in 84. Blake moved to San Francisco after graduation. Some of Nathan's solo exhibitions include the San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art, University Art Museum, Berkeley, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Yerba Buena Center For The Arts, San Francisco, and Skidmore College's Tang Teaching Museum.
