American film director, producer, screenwriter and cinematographer (b. Aug 1952); currently based in Agoura Hills, California. Scott B was best known as one-half of the influential duo of experimental filmmakers, Beth B & Scott B, with his wife Beth B, associated with the "No Wave" and "Cinema of Transgression" movements. They were active in New York City and operated 'B Movies' independent production company between 1977 and 85. Scott and Beth co-directed a series of "no budget" 16-mm shorts and feature-length movies praised for unique ultra-lo-fi aesthetics and violent, sinister themes. The duo's films were screened at prestigious film festivals, including Internationaal Filmfestival Rotterdam, and retrospectives at renowned museums and galleries, such as Whitney Museum of American Art and MoMA. In 2000, Scott B co-founded antennaFILMS independent production company, serving as its Executive Producer and Co-Creative Director. Scott Billingsley studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was an exhibiting sculptor before joining forces with Beth. The duo's best-known and most acclaimed movie, a dark "noir" detective Vortex starring Lydia Lunch, James Russo (2), Bill Rice (3), Haoui Montaug and Ann Magnuson, premiered at the New York Film Festival in September 1982. They dissolved the partnership a few years later. In 1987, Scott B collaborated with Joseph Nechvatal on an art performance called "Not a Door: A Spectacle" at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, featuring actors Richard Edson and Mark Boone Junior and based on the poetry of St. John of the Cross, works of Jean Genet and Georges Bataille, and Flaubert's Temptation of St. Anthony. Since 2000, Scott B has operated his antennaFILMS production company, creating numerous works for TV networks and broadcasters, including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, A&E Television Networks, The History Channel, Lifetime (4) and Sundance TV. He was a creative consultant for Richard Branson's "Virgin Galactic" project and director of photography for Ice Road Truckers pilot. Among various commercial and TV accolades Scott received are Peabody and Cine Golden Eagle Awards.
