In the 1990s Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Flanagan performed with, wrote songs for and toured the U.S. and Europe with L.A./Oakland-based oddball cabaret band Giant Ant Farm, as well as fronting alt-rock band Willoughby, where his songs appeared in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as well in several independent films. In the 2000s he performed, and wrote/co-wrote with The Lisa Marr Experiment, which released two cds on Sympathy for the Record Industry, as well as doing some scoring work for commercials and independent film. He writes and records his own songs under the name Heliotrope as well as plays with Missy Gibson in indie bands Breech, Nellie Bly and traditional Irish band Paddy’s Pig. He also plays in Quazar & The Bamboozled, and children's folk band The Hollow Trees.
