Karl Pfortner

German composer, conductor and arranger (*Eger, Sudetenland, April 13, 1920, + Marxzell-Burbach near Karlsruhe, June 28, 1988) During high school in Eger, Pfortner received practical and theoretical music lessons at the municipal music school; After graduating from high school in 1939, he joined a music corps in Ansbach as a trombonist, but was called up to the troupe just six months later and was taken prisoner by the Americans in 1943. After returning home, Pfortner played in various orchestras. In 1949 Südwestfunk brought the talented musician to Baden-Baden as arranger and trombonist for the Südwestfunk Tanzorchester. Since 1953 he has led the "Harmonie" Karlsruhe, one of the leading brass orchestras in south-west Germany.
