Gary DiBenedetto was born in 1948 in Brooklyn, New York. He holds a Masters Degree in composition and performance from New York University and received a 2002 Music Composition Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Gary DiBenedetto teaches instrumental music and composition and has written several manuscripts concerning educational psychology and instrumental methods. His compositions, derived from sounds recorded in natural and industrial environments, are sonic collages that imply political or social messages. In addition to his electroacoustic compositions his work includes audiovisual and at present a collaborative multimedia interactive installation involving the work of two landscape architects and an environmental psychologist.
