Born: January 11, 1931 in Kentucky. Known as the as the "Singing Blues Boy." His first radio show was over WTFM in Tiffin, Ohio in 1947. He joined the Air Force and was assigned to the Whiteman Air Force Base (about 20 miles west of Sedalia, Missouri) in May 1957. While in the Air Force he did some deejaying as well as performing, and signed with Starday records in 1957. He ended up settling in Sedalia, where he worked as an editor at the Sedalia Democrat newspaper in the early 1960s. After his death in 2014, his daughter discovered an unpublished manuscript that he had completed documenting the time that Scott Joplin spent in Sedalia. The manuscript was published in 2020 under the title "A Cradle for Ragtime: The Saga of Scott Joplin" by William D. Hill.
