Emerald was a Heavy Metal Band From New Brunswick, New Jersey. They Were Active From 1983 To 1987. They recorded several demos, but only ended up releasing one single titled "Ladies Of The Night / High Roller". Formed in 1983 at SiposFest (a backyard concert) by Alex Sipos, Danny Magnanti, Giovanni Magnanti, and Geoff Cavino. Geoff Cavino left in 1985 and was replaced by Brian McPete, who was replaced by David Jay. With David Jay in the lineup, they recorded their only released single, although previous demos had been recorded at Terry Hughes' studio in North Brunswick. Less than 200 copies of the single were pressed. Emerald sold these singles at shows or gave them away. Most were lost or destroyed. During this time, Emerald played frequently in central New Jersey. They played with the likes of The Beast and Prophet. Giovanni left the group in 1986 due to gruesome hand injuries, resulting in Emerald playing as a trio. David Jay left in late 1986 wanting to pursue a career in Jazz. Emerald then chose Bill Cole to be their next lead guitarist. A demo was discovered on a reel in 2017 titled "Queen of My Dreams / Bad". This proposed single was scrapped and thought to have been lost forever. This features Bill Cole on Lead and Rhythm Guitars, Keyboards, and Backing Vocals. He also wrote the proposed B-Side "Bad" while Danny Magnanti wrote "Queen Of My Dreams". Emerald added Pete Wallace on Bass for some shows throughout 1987, with Danny Magnanti taking on Rhythm Guitar during some shows. Emerald disbanded in either late 1987 or early 1988. Alex Sipos, who founded this group, co-found Alternative Rock band Short Term Memory, co-found Rainstation, joined Alternative Rock band Akasa, and founded side project Hatemail, adding his friend Rich G. and former Emerald guitarist Geoff Cavino to the project. During these sessions, Emerald reunited to record three tracks. Geoff Cavino, Alex Sipos, and David Jay were on all three while Danny was on two. "Can't Say Goodbye" is a ballad, filed under the name Emerald 2000. As well, a Hard Rock track titled "Cruisin'" was recorded. David Jay, along with Alex and Geoff recorded "Soul Mate" featuring weird effects and slow-mo voice overs. Hatemail privately released their album in 2001 on CD-R with their name and tracks printed onto the CD. Less than 20 were made, the pressing excluding all Emerald reunion tracks due to them not fitting with the sound of the album. In 2015, an EP consisting of the original single tracks and an unreleased track titled "Shoot For The Top" was released in Pennsylvania at a local record store. Hundred copies were pressed. A private homemade compilation consisting of all original tracks and their live counterparts was made for family only, less than 10 being pressed. In 2018, a VHS featuring Emerald performing live was discovered and converted to MP4. This VHS features Emerald in action doing covers of 80's Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and Heavy Metal standards, along with three originals including "Bad", "Ladies Of The Night" and an undiscovered and unreleased original titled "Hot Meat" sung by Lead Guitarist Bill Cole.
