Pato Barraza

Patricio "Pato" Barraza has been one of the main exponents of original Costa Rican rock music in the last 30 years. Despite being more recognized for his work with the group "Inconsciente Colectivo". Pato has also ventured into other musical genres (soul, funk, jazz, new song, salsa, various radio and television commercials, etc). His need to make music started in the early 80's when he joined the (Saint Francis) school marching band for 5 years, where he also end up joining the school choir. Upon entering the Universidad de Costa Rica (1986), Pato dedicated himself to play music in the "pretil" of the University frequently, where he meet the newly armed duo: Café Con Leche composed by Enrique Ramírez (3) and José Capmany. From there a friendship with both is born and thus he begins as the opening act for a couple of acoustic concerts. After the separation of Enrique Ramírez from the already famous group, he joins him to form "Enrique y sus Secuaces" (1987). From there he meet Ulyses Grant, a classic cellist with a Caribbean soul with whom he forms an experimental group of Calypso, trova and rock called "IRIAKI". These last projects were the ones that opened the way to form "Inconsciente Colectivo" in Tres Ríos in 1989.
