Valdis Luks (Latvian Valdis Lukss, real name Voldemars Kristapovich Luks (Latvian Voldemārs Lukss); June 21, 1905 - July 24, 1985) was a Latvian poet, journalist and public figure. He graduated from the Tukums County School (1937) and the University of Latvia. During the Great Patriotic War, he was an editorial worker for the front-line newspaper Latviešu Strēlnieks (Latvian Rifleman). Member of the CPSU since 1944. After the end of the war, from 1945 to 1947 he worked as the editor of the magazine "Literatūra un Māksla" ("Literature and Art"). He was the first secretary of the Writers' Union of the Latvian SSR (1950-1965), a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Latvian SSR (1958-1962). Creation Since 1925 he began to be published in various periodicals. The first collection of poems "Skarbums", dedicated to the revolutionary struggle, was published in 1941. During the war years, the books "Sniga sniegi" (1943) and "Kara krūze" (1945) were published. The problems of post-war life were touched upon in the poetry collections "Rita sāk dzīvot" (1948) and "Dzejas" (1949). The author returned to the revolutionary theme in the poem "Slava" (1958). Civil, everyday and children's poems were published in the collections "Augsim" (1948), "Rīta solis" (1951), "Pirmklasnieki" (1956), "Tinces varavīksne" (1957). The whole work of Valdis Luks is characterized by emotionally expressive, socially relevant sounding of poetry.
