Jimi Metag

Peter "Jimi" Metag was an East German jazz promoter and concert manager. He was born in 1950. As early as 1969 he and Ulli Blobel started organizing concerts with soul music in the local film theater in Peitz, East Germany. In September 1971 they organized a concert with the quartet of Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky in the Peitz film theater. On June 2nd, 1973, they organized the first jazz workshop in Peitz, which was to become known as "Jazzwerkstatt Peitz". In 1983 the Jazzwerkstatt was shut down by East German authorities and Metag and Blobel went to West Germany where they continued to promote jazz concerts. Peter Metag died in 2013 in Cottbus, Germany.
