Markland Campbell

Markland Campbell aka “Jahiant” was a Canadian Hip Hop artist based in Ottawa. Died June 7, 2019 of gunshot wounds in Ottawa. Born oldest of five children in Port More Jamaica. From a very young age he chose to surround himself with music and the music industry. He appeared on stage for the first time at the age of 13 during a talent show held in Gregory Park, Port More. He did not bring home the prize or a trophy but a star was born that day. Port More Jamaica is known for its rough streets, a tough place to grow up for any youth. Rising above social restrains and poverty Jahiant has taken his life’s experiences and put them into a musical awareness. Within his lyrics you will find truth, wisdom, creativity and a technical genius. Filtering all his emotions and memories into his creative writing and beats most people can jam, rock or relate to. Jahiant quickly realized that, at the young age of 16 just a few years after immigrating to Canada and joining a black and white all male Hip Hop band “The Half Size Giants”.
