American film and stage actress, singer, and author. Born January 1, 1919, in Fairchild, Wisconsin. Died July 5, 1948 in Pacific Palisades, California (age of 29). As a teen, she worked as a dancer and singer, joining Carl Ravazza And His Orchestra in San Francisco in 1936. She sang with him for just six months, playing at some of the top nightclubs and ballrooms across the country. Show business quickly drew her to Los Angeles. She worked as a contract-player for Twentieth Century-Fox in the 1940s. Her breakthrough role was as the female lead in the 1940 film One Million B.C., with United Artists. Landis was known as "The Ping Girl", "The Chest" and "The Blond Bomber" because of her curvy figure. She often sang in her own voice in musicals. She appeared on more than seventy radio shows during her career, acting in radio dramas, performing skits with other celebrities, and hosting a few shows.
