Swedish art critic and museum director, born September 17, 1953. He studied for a period at the School of Economics in Stockholm, but left to study, among other things, art science, psychology and sociology at Stockholm University. He also pursued doctoral studies in art studies at New York University in 1982–1983. Between the years 1979 and 1985, Nittve was an art critic at Svenska Dagbladet in parallel with a teaching assignment at Stockholm University. In the years 1986–1990 he was the first curator at the Modern Museum and 1990–1995 director of the art museum Rooseum in Malmö. In 1995, Lars Nittve began an international managerial career by becoming museum director of the Louisiana Art Museum in Denmark, where he remained until 1998, when he became director of the new Tate Modern in London, which was inaugurated in 2000. In 2001, Nittve returned to Sweden and was appointed director for the Modern Museum. As a curator, he has, among other things, made exhibitions characterized by an early postmodernist perspective and with a multicultural character. Lars Nittve was 2011–2015 director of the project M+, a planned art museum in Hong Kong. He is a member of the board of the Bonnier art gallery.
