Mathias Mönius

German conductor Mönius was born in 1963 in Forchheim. At the age of eight, Mönius learned to play the piano. Mönius first studied ancient history and completed his studies with a master's degree. Mönius began studying music at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1991, which he completed in 1995. In 1996, In 2000 he became head of studies with conducting duties at the Meiningen State Theater. In 2007 he became first conductor and deputy general music director at the Landestheater Eisenach. Since the 2012/2013 season, Mönius has been head of studies and conductor at the Landestheater Detmold. Mönius has made guest appearances as a conductor or pianist at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, in Cape Town, Toronto, Italy, France, Holland, Great Britain and Switzerland.
