Josephine Jones (3)

African-American singer, who recorded two titles in 1925. Her recordings were included in earlier editions, but were excluded from the fourth ed., "Blues and gospel records 1890-1943" (Oxford University Press, 1997), with the following comment: "Though a Race issue, titles by Josephine Jones on Ajax 17094 are straight ballad performances of no blues or jazz interest, despite accompaniment credit to Choo Choo Jazzers." (p. 490) Unissued Victor recordings made by a Josephine Jones in Memphis in 1930 are believed to be by a different singer (possibly a pseudonym for Edith Johnson).
