American contralto vocalist Born: 17 May 1884 in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Died: 24 September 1915 in New York, New York, USA The daughter of a Minnesota pioneer, Mildred Pottgieser grew up in St. Paul, MN, where she attended public schools, studied music under Emil Ohnet, and sang in the Cathedral choir. At age 16, she made her way to New York City, accompanied by her mother, to become a professional singer. Between 1912 and her death, she was soloist in the choir of the Church of the Divine Fraternity of New York. Her last appearance in the Twin Cities was in winter 1914 when she sang with the Minneapolis Symphony orchestral and the St. Paul Choral society. Mildred Potter died of complications from appendicitis surgery. Between 1913 and 1915, Potter recorded two dozen titles for Columbia.
