Married to actresses Evelyn Laye (1926–1930). and Jessie Matthews (2) (1931-1944, divorced). Brother of actress Binnie Hale. He sang duets with numerous leading ladies inlcuding Maisie Gay, Jessie Matthews, June Hale, Peggy O'Neil, Annie Kasmir, Marjorie Spiers, Anita Elson, Mimi Crawford and his sister Binnie Hale.
