Marika Papaioanou

Greek pianist (21 November 1904 - 2 July 1994) Marika Papaioannou was born on November 21, 1904 in a family where everyone played music. So it seemed natural that Kaiti, Angelos, Marika and Giannis got involved in music! She took her first piano lessons from Koula Papadiamantopoulou but in 1915 when the family settled in Geneva, Marika continued her piano lessons with Johnny Aubert. He then went to Paris where he completed his studies in the class of Isidor Philipp. He spoke warmly of the intelligence of this musician and the wise technique books he had written. He spent hours giving me tips and instructions on how to apply, on the details of the technical teaching that Philipp had so thoroughly turned into exercises for all levels of piano students and pianists. Finishing her studies, together with her sister Kaiti, she attended classes of Egon Petri and Arthur Schnabel. From 1929 she played in many concerts in Europe, she was considered an ideal interpreter of Mozart and Debussy, most of whose works she played and taught.
