Doug Chappell

Canadian musician and record company executive born in Toronto. Original bassist with Richie Knight & The Mid-Knights from 1960 until it disbanded in 1969. Joined A&M Records Of Canada Limited's promotion department in 1971, where he worked his way up to Vice President of Marketing by the time he left to take the position of President at Island Records Of Canada Ltd. when it opened on May 1, 1984. Unsatisfied with Chris Blackwell's blocking of Canadian acts that Chappell wanted to sign to Island, he departed in July 1986 to take the position of President at Virgin Records Canada Inc. (later Virgin Music Canada). He left Virgin to take the position of President at Mercury/Polydor Canada (division of PolyGram Group Canada Inc.) on August 2, 1994 until he retired from the business in September 1997. Longtime board member of Canadian Academy Of Recording Arts And Sciences and the Juno Awards committee. Board member of Canadian Country Music Association Died December 3rd 2020
