Group One was a Canadian folk group founded in the early 1960s. It consisted on lead vocalist and songwriter James Boyle, second vocalist Barry Nunn, and vocalist and banjo player John Wainwright. The group originated in London, Ontario and gained some local popularity for their song 'The Black Donnellys,' which was released in July 1963. Group One recorded only 8 songs during their career, all of which were released as singles on the Sparton label. They broke up in 1964 after the success of the Beatles changed the face of commercial folk music, leaving bands like Group One behind. Boyle continued performing solo into the 1970s and occasionally performed with Nunn at special events into the 2000s. All 3 members are now retired.
