Atlas (39)

Started in 1972 by former The Groop (3) singer, Ronnie Charles (listed as Ron Charles Boromeo on their only LP release). Ronnie recruited Les Gough (bass; Somebody's Image, Image, [a3446314]) and two English musicians in the form of Terry Slade (drums, percussion; ex-Sunshine (23)) and Glen Turner (2) (guitar; ex-[a343684] before they recorded). They signed to Warners in Australia and the Reprise label released an album, [r11262530], in 1973, and two singles “Rock 'n'Roll Wizards / Military Rag” and “They Don't Know / The Knowing”. Sadly, by the end of 1974 they had gone their separate ways. Vernon Joyson wrote that they played “high powered rock with a cutting edge courtesy of guitar ace Glen Turner” and thought the “material was sufficiently varied to highlight their ability and diversity.” [a3429157] said Atlas was “a hard rock/boogie outfit, fitting in with contemporary English bands like Wishbone Ash, Free, Status Quo”.
