Anita Lockman

Born Feb. 24, 1952. Died July 31, 1970 Alden, Iowa. Iowa singer, bandleader, and saxophone player who tragically passed away in a murder-suicide by a bandmate at the age of 18. At the age of 14, she was a featured part of the television show "Starlite Jubilee" and had been a prime performer on top entertainment shows with Don Gibson, Minnie Pearl, Johnny Western, The Duke of Paducah, and Boots Randolph. Her tenor sax performances were in the same "yakity" manner as Randolph and she had often been termed as his female counterpart. Before her death, she had been offered a contract to sign with a Nashville country and western entertainment agency.
