Marks Opeskins was born in October 1953 in Riga. He studied at Emīls Dārziņš Music High School and studied music at the Latvian State Conservatory. In 1973, he traveled to Germany, where in 1974 he and Gundars Rullis formed the psychedelic rock and blues rock band "Prusaku ansamblis" ("Cockroach Ensemble"), which recorded only one album. He continued his music studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts). Dr. Hoch's Conservatorium as a lecturer in music theory. He was also the founder and artistic director of the German Latvian Chamber Choir (1983-1990). In 1990 he was the chief conductor of the XX General Latvian Song Festival in Riga. Since 1981 Marks Opeskins also is a lecturer in music theory at Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory is. In addition to these tasks and compositional work, he is a member of the Federal Music Committee of the Hessischer Sängerbund. In his more than thirty years of choral conducting, Mark Opeskin has been invited to Australia, Canada, England and Sweden as a guest conductor. He has also performed a number of choirs in the Hochtaunuskreis, including the choir "Cantaunus" of the Singing Circle Hochtaunus. With his current choirs “Cantus Wirena”, from Wehrheim and MGV 1875 Falkenstein, Mark Opeskin regularly organizes concerts whose programs impressively reflect the diverse range of choral literature.
