Greta Dahlström

Finnish-Swedish music educator, music researcher, choir leader and composer, 21 August 1887 in Tyrvis, Finland died 23 March 1978 in Turku, Finland. In 1925 she married Svante Dahlström and was the mother of [a2881721]. She studied at the Helsinki Music Institute from 1903-1907 and then worked as a music teacher in Helsinki and Turku. In 1925-1938 she was secretary of the Åboland Singing and Music Association and in 1953-1959 conductor of the Åbo svenska damkör (Turku Swedish Women's Choir). She was also active as a composer (mainly of choral works) and performed a significant work as adapter and arranger of folk melodies. She recorded over 3,200 folk songs, ballads, dance melodies and violin songs and completed and published in 1975 a volume of younger dance melodies started by [a4843739] in the series Finnish Swedish Folk Poetry.
