Defunct (3)

Об исполнителе:
Defunct started in 1997 with Mike Tsouris and former guitarist, Ben Crandell collaborating on musical ideas. Their first drummer, John Hawka was in the band only briefly due to lack of chemistry and connection. The 3 of them managed to release a 6 track self titled EP with the help of Josh Vasquez (a.k.a. Silky J.). That CD got absolutely no recognition by anyone, but Defunct continued anyway. Nathan Young (bassist/vocalist) joined the band along with Jeremy Langdon (drums) in September of 1998. With Silky J. away at U. C. DAVIS, the four of them made a name for themselves in the local house party scene, playing countless shows EVERYWHERE they could. With in this time period, the band wrote and recorded their first serious effort, "Good-bye World," a 6 track EP that the band gave away and sold at shows. Differences divided Jeremy and Nathan from the band, which left it to only Mike and Ben again. They met up with Dusty Jann summer of 99 and went right back to playing shows with in 25 days of Dusty joining the band. Chris Lee had also joined the band in this period as a second guitarist, adding his flavor to the songs with his Ibanez 7 string. Silky J. made appearances at major shows. The band recorded their first full length album, "Black Belt Partiers", a mix of funk, rap, hard-core, and psychedelic madness. The CD has sold in just about ever country and is responsible for the world wide fanbase defunct now has. To promote the album, they got a temporary bassist, Frank Phirmann, which didn't work out very well. Along the same time Frank left the band, Dusty decided to leave to pursue an other musical endeavor. Which, once again, left Mike and Ben and now Chris, on their asses. During this downtime, Ben left for Colorado.....bye. They (mike and Chris) went through a few drummers after that, which were all very short relationships when Mike one day got an e-mail from a drummer in Idaho interested in being in the band. William Whitney had been playing drums most of his conscious life and had made the decision to move to California to make a future for himself as a professional drummer. He saw that opportunity in Defunct. Chemistry, tightness, and a relationship came instantly after. William Whitney is what Defunct needed (our drummer can kick your drummers ass!!! hehe). Nathan Young had decided to put his all into it, and rejoined the band as well, and with Silky J. finishing his last semester at U. C. DAVIS, the band is once again complete. The band has written a lot of new material and is planning to record some of it in mid January to give the band's long waiting fans a taste of what's to come. The band has also progressed in the scene, now playing venues they only dreamed of playing. Hopefully, the right person will hear what Defunct has to offer in their energy and in their music and help make a bright future for these 5 young musicians. In the meantime, spread the word to everyone you know..... Defunct is coming.
