Art Lowry

Art Lowry was born in Brooklyn, NY, USA. He began playing piano at age of 6 under the tutelage of his father, an accomplished pianist himself. In high school he began his first orchestra, centered around his piano. After graduating high school, he began playing with Frank Lamarr's Orchestra in the late 1930's or early 1940's, later on adding arranging and conducting to his skills. Next he worked with Lee Terry and Ferde Grofé, for whom he was pianist and assistant arranger. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, becoming the band master of the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard. After leaving the service in 1945, he began his own group: Art Lowry His Piano And Orchestra. Norman Leyden did the orchestrations for the Lowry 45s, with Lowry arranging.
