Peter Gotcher (b. 1960) is an American entrepreneur and independent private equity investor, best known as the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Digidesign, creators of Pro Tools digital audio workstation. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981 and worked at Dolby Laboratories, Inc. in San Francisco from 1982 to 1984. Before co-founding Digidesign, Gotcher played in several bands with his high-school friend, Evan Brooks. They briefly participated in Keta And The Ketones, a local band formed by SF Bay Area vocalist Keta Bill. Subsequently, Gotcher and Brooks became interested in creating better electronics for music production. Circa 1984, they founded "Digidrums" to sell sound replacement chips for the E-mu Drumulator drum machine. Soon rebranded as "Digidesign Software," their new company began creating audio software for Apple Macintosh, leading to the first version of Pro Tools in 1991.
