Edmund von Strauss (12 August 1869, Olmütz — 13 September 1919, Berlin) was an Austrian conductor and composer. He studied at Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and began his career conducting at Deutschen Theater in Prague. Strauß worked in Lübeck, Bremen, and Munich before accepting the post of Staatsoper Berlin's royal conductor. Between 1910 and 1913, Edmund von Strauss served as the principal conductor of the Blüthner-Orchester. Under his direction, the orchestra produced one of the earliest recordings of Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen" opera cycle, with the first act of Die Walküre recorded for the German label Anker Record, featuring tenor Jacques Decker (Siegmund), soprano Erna Denera (Sieglinde), and bass Gustav Schwegler (Hunding). As a composer, Strauss primarily wrote songs and duets; his best-known work is Sechs Kinderlieder, Op. 9 (1907).
