Sjef Van Oekel

Character created by Wim T. Schippers performed by Dolf Brouwers in several tv series by Schippers for Dutch broadcasting network VPRO. Schippers had initially named him S. van Oekel after seeing the name on a company car in Reet, Belgium in 1972, and it was Brouwers who made him Sjef van Oekel. In 1976 Sjef van Oekel also became a comic strip character drawn by Theo van den Boogaard, once again scripted by Schippers. In 1989 the comic books became a source of dispute between Brouwers and Schippers, which was settled in 1992.
