St. Joseph, Missouri soul and dance group. Mellow Madness had an integrated and revolving cast of black and white musicians who included Wilbur May, Howie Words, Homer Words, Gerald "Baby" Johnson, Stanley Weeden, Joe Geha, Chuck Lawrence, Mike Kelly, Butch Hopkins and Donnie Jones. Mellow Madness' origins were in the late 1960's with a group called the Mantex which included May, Jones and Gary Dydell. That group disbanded and for a time became Collisions in Black. May and Jones later employed some other musicians and became Mellow Madness in 1976. Mellow Madness disbanded in 1982, and not long after May, Words and some other musicians formed another group called Page Two.
